ORG asks UK ISPs to clarify data retention policies

The Open Rights Group (ORG) has written to UK ISPs BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media to ask them to clarify their data retention policies after the European Court of Justice ruled that the EU Data Retention Directive was not valid. In its letter, the ORG said that as these regulations no longer had a valid basis in UK law, ISPs should no longer be retaining user data unless there was some other legal basis for doing so. It asked the ISPs to publish a description of the data they will be continuing to collect for business purposes; how the data helps them; and how long they will be holding
