Around 44 percent of Chilean households have no fixed internet access whatsoever, according to a report on the country's digital divide published by communications regulator Subtel. The 2017 survey revealed that 12.6 percent of homes have no internet access, an improvement on the year-earlier figure of 20.7 percent, but that 45.5 percent of households with over 65-year-olds have no connection. In total, only 28.9 percent of homes access the internet via a fixed connection alone, rising to 29.6 percent who only have a mobile connection, while 27.2 percent connect with both.
