Over 7 in 10 Uruguayan fixed line users access internet via fibre

Well over 7 in 10 Uruguayan fixed broadband subscribers (72%) accessed the internet using fibre-optic networks at the end of 2018, according to the latest update from communications regulator Ursec. The figure is 5 percent higher than in December 2017 thanks in part to a 273 kilometre increase in fibre-optic cable coverage to 11,730 kilometres, said the watchdog, adding that xDSL now accounts for just 23 percent of the country's 977,448 fixed internet accesses.
