Pakistan starts biometric verification of 103 mln SIMs

Pakistan's five mobile operators, Mobilink, Telenor Pakistan, Ufone, Zong and Warid, have started the biometric re-verification process of around 103 million mobile phone SIMs. The measure is part of the government's newly launched National Action Plan to fight terrorism, local newspaper The Nation reports. The industry has already invested USD 25 million in the provision of around 60,000 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices and PKR 22 billion on previous mandatory verification processes with another significant amount to be spent on this re-verification exercise to enhance the
