Pakistan to eliminate tax exemption on intl travelers' phones

The Pakistani government plans to suspend the tax exemption on mobile phones brought by international travelers. Up to now, foreign visitors to Pakistan were allowed to have one phone registered with the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) without paying any taxes. The elimination of the tax exemption mainly seeks to avoid smuggling of illegal mobile phones in the country, as well as bring in additional revenue for the country, Techjuice reports, citing Hamid Ateeq, Member Inland Revenue and Policy. The statement was made at a press conference of the Federal Board
