Pakistan to waive sales tax on SIM replacement

The government of Pakistan has agreed in principle on waiver of sales tax on replacement of SIMs for the period between 12 January to 28 February, The News reports. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister of State for IT Anusha Rehman chaired a meeting with representatives of mobile phone operators, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ministry of IT, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Interior regarding the re-verification of mobile phone SIMs, with particular focus on fiscal aspects of the issues faced by the telecom sector.
