Pakistani operators eliminate 10% charge on mobile top-ups

Pakistani mobile operators have eliminated the service charge for prepay recharges. Customers will no longer be charged the 10 percent top-up fee on prepay card loads and balance transfers, local newspaper Business Recorder reports. Mobile phone users will now receive around PKR 88.9 when they purchase of PKR 100 top-up card, compared to the PKR 76.9 amount they received before the elimination of the tax. According to the same source, a 12.5 percent withholding tax and 19.5 percent federal excise duty (FED) are still applicable and will be deducted from the mobile card recharge.
