Pakistani WLL operators launch biometric verification system

Pakistani wireless local loop (WLL) operators have launched the Biometric Verification System for issuance of WLL connections at their customer service centers. During the first phase of the project, PTCL, Wi-tribe, Qubee and Wateen had to deploy the system at their customer service centers by 30 November. The set deadline has been successfully met by WLL operators after which WLL connections such as Vfone, EVO, Wingle, wireless dongles, etc., used for providing broadband service, are being issued after biometric verificationof the subscriber, said Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA).

During second phase of the project, deployment of the Biometric Verification System should be completed at franchisees and retailers of WLL operators by 31 December. The re-verification of WLL connections issued before the implementation of the Biometric Verification System is scheduled for completion by 29 February 2016.
