Pay-TV penetration will fall to 75.2% in 2022 - study

The number of non-pay TV homes in North America will double to 41.56 million in 2022 from 20.69 million in 2012, meaning pay-TV penetration will fall from its peak of 87.4 percent in 2013 to 75.2 percent by 2022, according to the last study from digital TV research. The study noted that although the number of pay TV subscribers will fall by 10 percent to 102 million in 2022 from 112 million in the peak year of 2012, the issue is not only cord cutting but more likely cable subscribers who would rather stop paying for TV services than having to convert to an often more expensive digital
