PC shipments lift by a modest 1.1% in Q3 - study

Worldwide PC shipments showed a modest increase in the third quarter, up 1.1 percent from the year before to 68 million units, according to the latest study from Gartner. IDC's study for traditional PCs showed a rise of 3 percent to 70.4 million units. Gartner said the primary driver for growth was the continued Windows 10 refresh cycle, with some variations across regions. For example, in Japan, PC shipments advanced 55 percent, also pushed by a pending sales tax change. That strong increase helped lift the worldwide market.
