Peru 'broadband' speeds must reach minimum 4Mbps

Peru's transport and communications ministry (MTC) has announced that mobile and fixed internet services cannot be referred to as "broadband" unless they offer minimum speeds of 4Mbps (download) and 1Mbps (upload). Operators have until 24 December to adapt their commercial offers to the new conditions and will be fined up to USD 190,000 if they breach the new regulation, said the ministry, adding that the 4Mbps speed for broadband is similar to that applied in Mexico and higher than those applied in Ecuador and Colombia.
