Peru operators to block 1.27 million 'illegal' phones

Tuesday 8 January 2019 | 11:02 CET | News
Peruvian telecom services regulator Osiptel has announced that the country's operators will block some 1.27 million mobile phones with invalid international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers by 08 January. The phones are those included on the country's 'Renteseg' register set up in 2017 to prevent illegal trade in wireless equipment. Unlike last year, operator will only proceed to block phones with invalid IMEIs and will not be required to suspend lines until the equipment is handed in.
