Peru regulator fines Bitel over PEN 1 mln for coverage and quality breaches

Peruvian telecommunications services regulator Osiptel has fined Bitel a total of PEN 1.02 million for four breaches of its mobile coverage plan and for failing to reach minimum call quality standards in some regions of the country. Bitel, a subsidiary of Vietnamese state-run telco Viettel, was fined for PEN 507,360 for blackouts in Cusco and Huancavelica and PEN 514,080 for quality breaches in Cusco, Madre de Dios and Ucayali.
