Peru to resume blocking of 'illegal' phones this month

Tuesday 25 August 2020 | 13:57 CET | News
Peruvian telecom services regulator Osiptel announced that it will resume the blocking of mobile phones reported as stolen or with no registered user on 30 August. The watchdog said it intends to block an average of 100,000 handsets with invalid international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) numbers every 15 days until 30 December. Operators have been asked to send an SMS to users with the invalid phones warning them that their device will be blocked two working days before the deadline.
