Peru tops 7 mln internet homes

There were 7.04 million Peruvian homes with access to the internet at the end of 2018, equivalent to 73 percent of all households, according to the biannual Erestel residential telecommunications reports released by regulator Osiptel. The figure corresponds to fixed or mobile internet access and is 6.5 percent higher than the 2016 total. Nearly 9 in 10 of those homes (89.9%) are located in urban areas and just 1 in 10 (10.1%) in rural areas. Some 83.1 percent of Peruvians aged 12 and over access the internet using a smartphone or tablet while 35.8 percent do so by means of a fixed connection,
