Peru's fibre-optic networks up to over 61,500km

Peru's active fibre-optic footprint reached a total of 61,653 kilometres at the end of September 2016, according to a report issued by the country's Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel). Some 15 operators currently offer fibre-optic services, led by Azteca (13,571 km), Bitel (9,521 km), Claro (4,920 km), Telefonica (4,134 km) and Internexa (3,424 km). The watchdog added that Azteca is present in 180 of Peru's 196 provinces, followed by Telefonica in 98 and Bitel in 71. However, some 39 percent of provinces currently have just one operator with fibre-optic
