Polish services request customer data 2 mln times in 2014

Friday 20 March 2015 | 12:56 CET | News
State services, courts and prosecutors submitted a total of 2.178 million requests for telecommunications data in 2014, stated the regulator UKE in a report for the Panoptykon Foundation. The numbers are not of much use, taking into account the lack of a single methodology, making it impossible to assess the volume and types of information requested. UKE collects the information from both the operators and the state services. According to UKE, about a year ago, a significant discrepancy arose as public authorities admitted a much bigger number of requests than the operators reported.
