Portugal Telecom and Huawei launch 4.5G trials

Portugal Telecom and Huawei launches the first public demonstration of a 4.5G mobile network in Portugal, achieving speeds of 1.7 Gbps. The trial also pioneered the NGPON2 technology, developed by Altice Labs in Aveiro to support connectivity between the mobile stations and the network core. The public trial was conducted at the Web Summit in Lisbon, implementing multiband spectrum currently used by the commercial 2G/3G/4G networks, complemented by the aggregation of up to five carrier frequencies in FDD+ mode. During the demonstration, the partners used the Huawei Lampsite FDD and Macro TDD
