Portuguese govt ready to approve new islands link

Portugal's Finance Ministry has greenlighted the proposal of IP Telecom to invest in new submarine cables that will connect the islands of Azores and Madeira to the mainland, said Assistant Secretary of State and Communications, Alberto Souto de Miranda. He was responding to questions in parliament about a potential delay in replacing the existing cables, reports Lusa. He said that the expected installation period is 2-3 years, so the investment should begin in 2022, after a public tender and the awarding of the contract. The approval by the Council of Ministers is expected in the next few
