Portuguese regulator recommends transition period for universal service

Portugal's National Communications Authority (Anacom) has issued a statement, recalling that it recommended to the government in May 2018 that it not designate providers for the various components of the universal communications service. This recommendation was based on the fact that none of the components (fixed telephone service, public payphones and full directory service and information service 118) are used by many people, making the cost of financing disproportionate and totally unjustified. Anacom has now decided to recommend to the government that, in the event that the law is not
