Price caps help save USD 1 mln a month in mobile calls

Congolese consumers are saving slightly over CDF 1 billion (approximately USD 1.06 million) a month, based on around 50 million minutes of off-net calls, since the regulator introduced price caps at the start of 2015 on the country's two dominant operators, MTN and Airtel, ARPCE director Antoine Ndekololo told Star du Congo. The price caps were set following an analysis of call prices since 2011. It found that a reduction in termination costs was not passed on to customers even though the two carriers were making profits. The caps set in January are CDF 70 a minute for calls and CDF 10 for
