PT unions want government intervention to prevent sale

Tuesday 4 November 2014 | 17:12 CET | News
The Union of Workers of Portugal Telecom (STPT) has asked for intervention by the Portuguese government to prevent the sale of PT Portugal, reports Diario Economico. The union argues that Altice is a speculative investment fund and recalls that, after its purchase of Portuguese cable operator Cabovisao, about 30 percent of workers were laid off. The reaction follows the presentation of Altice's binding EUR 7.0 billion bid for the Portuguese assets of Brazilian operator Oi. The STPT has also appealed to the president of PT to use his veto power and stop the sale of PT Portugal to Altice.
