PTCL taps Nokia for 100G optical network deployment in Pakistan

Thursday 14 March 2019 | 18:33 CET | News
Nokia has deployed 100G in Pakistan Telecommunication Company’s network to enhance the capacity and speed of its optical network for domestic and international traffic. Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is now expected to be able to increase network capacity with the Software Defined Network (SDN) capabilities of the Nokia optical service. Nokia 500G DWDM line card and flexgrid is expected to provide PTCL with an upgrade to 200G and 400G per wavelength.

PTCL has adopted the Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch, and 1830 PSS 100G Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) with Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS). PTCL longhaul network with Nokia 100G 1830 platform is designed to meet current requirement offering using 100G waves and with Nokia flexgrid technology, the same infrastructure is ready to load wavelengths 100G beyond, Nokia said.

100G Set-Partition Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (SP QPSK) modulation is used to cover very long distance links offering OSNR tolerance with 30% improvement in latency due to less regenerations. The 500G DWDM line card aims to provide investment protection for PTCL with an upgrade to 500G of flexible transport bandwidth for delivery of 100G services.
