PTS reports on need for 'social masts' to improve coverage

Swedish regulator PTS has submitted a report requested by the government on the possible creation of 'social masts', to bring mobile broadband to areas without coverage. The masts, subsidised in part or fully by the state, would be open for use by any operator. The PTS noted that operators were already rolling out coverage to sparsely populated areas, in part due to coverage requirements for licences in the 800 MHz band. Similar conditions will be included on 700 MHz band licences. However, no form of public funding is currently available to expand coverage in areas that fall outside the
