Rakuten, NTT, KDDI, SoftBank to build new fibre submarine cable in Japan

Japanese operator Rakuten Mobile has signed a construction agreement with NTT Communications, KDDI and SoftBank. The four partners will jointly build a high-capacity fibre-optic submarine cable to connect Hokkaido and Akita Prefecture. The length of the cable is planned to reach 770 km, with construction to be completed by the end of FY2023.
