Rakuten takes stake in Altiostar, on track for virtualisation of mobile network

Japanese e-commerce group Rakuten said it has made a strategic investment in US-based vRAN services provider Altiostar Networks, in a transaction subject to the approval by the US Committee on Foreign Investment. The investment will help Rakuten deploy its fully virtualised mobile network in Japan in October, which it says will be an industry first, and to become a leader in RAN virtualisation. No specific stake percentages were provided.
