Rakuten to close Spain, UK and Austrian businesses

Japanese e-commerce platform Rakuten has announced plans to exit Spain, Austria and the UK as part of a restructuring process started earlier this year. The company said it had decided to close Rakuten.co.uk in the UK and Rakuten.es and Spain, as well as its offices in Cambridge and Barcelona because "the cost of growth relative to the size of the businesses has led to plans to close these operations". The company's Austrian operations and office will also be shut down although customers will still be served out of neighboring Germany. Earlier this year, Rakuten pulled out of Southeast Asia,
