Reconditioned smartphone sales surge in France

Monday 29 October 2012 | 08:38 CET | News
The rise in France's Sim-only subscribers has led to a surge in reconditioned phone sales. Over the estimated 1 million mobile phones recycled in France last year, fewer than 500,000 were resold by stores and operators, according to Bouygues Telecom product strategy manager Julien Bareyre told Les Echos. Second hand smartphones can be bought from operators, on eBay and Leboncoin.fr, and companies such as MagicRecycle and ReCommerce, which recycles 40,000 phones a month. Orange CEO Stephane Richard recently blamed the growth in Sim-only subscribers for a 10 percent fall in new phone sales.
