Regulator threatens to fine Telefonica over roaming fees

Germany's Federal Network Agency (BnA) is threatening to fine Telefonica Deutschland for charging customers too much for roaming within the EU, reports the 'Rheinische Post' newspaper. Under new EU regulations, roaming fees at set at a maximum 5 cents per minute with effect from 01 May. However, Telefonica is still charging many customers 20 cents a minute, and will reduce this to 14.95 cents per minute for contract customers from 01 July. A spokesperson for the Federal Network Agency told the paper that it would formally notify Telefonica in writing that it must conform to the EU Directive
