Roman utility firm Acea to bid for broadband tenders

Rome-based utility firm Acea (Azienda Comunale Energia e Ambiente) has surprisingly submitted an expression of interest to take part in the tenders announced by state-owned infrastructure agency Infratel to build a national high-speed broadband network in digital divide areas. The regions covered by the second phase of the government's broadband plan are Piedmont, Aosta Valley, Liguria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Umbria, Marche, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, Sicily and the Autonomous Province of Trento, with Acea interested in the lots covering Umbria, Marche and Lazio.
