Rostelecom to launch backbone link to Kuril Islands in Q2 2019

Russian national operator Rostelecomp plans to start services on its backbone link connecting Sakhalin with the Kuril Islands in the second quarter of 2019, reports Tdaily.ru citing Valeriy Yermakov, the vice-president of the operator.

The project is currently in the finalisation stage, and the sub-sea section of the backbone will be completed this year. Broadband services will become available in the Kuril Islands after the launch.
