Rural broadband users face price hikes after Comreg ruling

Basic broadband prices for rural customers could rise under new regulations being considered by the Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg), reports the Irish Independent. Comreg found that broadband customers in urban areas are subsidising rural customers. As a result, Eircom could apply for permission to increase its rural broadband prices to recoup the cost of providing services outside of the main cities. The move would affect all operators reselling broadband services on Eircom landlines. Comreg has determined that rural internet customers are not paying the full cost of
