Russia to deploy trans-arctic cable system

The Russian governmental commission on federal communications and IT issues has approver a project to deploy a trans-arctic cable network. The government plans to carry out the project as a PPP. The cable network will connect London and Tokyo. The scheme will carried out by the company Polarnet Project. The construction of the sea-bed cable system is planned for 2013-2014 and the route will be close to the Russian Northern and Pacific coasts. The system is expected to be operated for 25 years and the total investment will be total USD 1.360 billion.
