Russian smartwatch market doubles in 2017

The Russian smartwatch market, in units, grew by 150 percent in 2017, reports Vedomosti citing a study from mobile retail chain M.Video. Around 274,000 devices sold, while revenues jumped by 81 percent to RUB 6 billion.  

Sales of devices from Apple and Samsung grew by 100 percent and by 120 percent, respectively. Russian retailers said Apple held 50 percent of the market in terms of units, with Samsung holding 30 percent. The rest of the market was divided up between the Cyber, Krez, Mykronoz, Prolike, Iwown brands. Those brands compete mainly in the segment of smartwatches priced up to RUB 10,000. 

The average retail rate of a smartwatch was RUB 22,000 in 2017, down by 10 percent year-on-year.
