Rwanda plans to launch its first satellite this year, New Times reported, citing the Rwanda Utility and Regulatory Authority (RURA). The initiative is in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Patrick Nyirishema, RURA's director general, said it is trying to shorten the timeline and the satellite will be launched after the Transform Africa Summit from 07-10 May in Kigali.
