Rwandan govt uses smartphones for disaster management

Rwanda's Ministry of Disaster and Refugee Management (Midimar) has launched an ambitious campaign of distributing internet-equipped mobile phones to all sector leaders with the aim of enhancing communications on disasters. A total of 832 moble handsets, 32 smartphones and 32 laptops have already been purchased for distribution. The cost of the entire project amounts to USD 164,000, said Darla Rudakubana, the ministry's communications specialist, New Times reported. She added that the programme to distribute phones at sector level and smartphones at district level will help ensure fast
