Safaricom among 29 firms offering public transport fare system ahead of cash ban

Kenyan operator Safaricom is among a group of lenders and IT companies that have been licensed to provide cashless payments services on Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), preparing for a ban on cash fare payments, Business Daily reported. The National Safety and Transport Authority (NTSA) said 29 licensed companies will offer a platform for cashless fares, after a 16 June 2020 tender for mobile software and web applications for the nearly 200,000 PSVs in the country.
