Safaricom denies any plan to part ways with M-Pesa

Friday 12 March 2021 | 11:18 CET | News
Kenyan operator Safaricom has clarified claims its mobile money offering M-Pesa is to break away from the company, ITWeb reported. Interim CEO M-Pesa Africa Sitoyo Lopokoiyit dismissed speculation that the company is looking to establish M-Pesa as an autonomous, single entity. Safaricom and Vodacom announced the M-Pesa Africa joint venture in April 2020 and the venture has a separate agenda, but the intention is not to create a new entity, Lopokoiyit told The Africa Financial Industry Summit 2021.
