Safaricom retail centres set to collect e-waste

Kenyan operator Safaricom said its retail centres will be used as electronic waste collection and storage points, Business Daily reported. Corporate affairs director Nzioka Waita said during the launch of the e-waste caravan that the firm had collected 40 tonnes of electronic waste in the past year in Nairobi County alone. Waita said that electronic devices have various toxic components that are harmful to the environment if not properly disposed of.
