Safaricom says 250,000 customers buy smartphones on credit

Thursday 8 July 2021 | 11:33 CET | News
Kenyan operator Safaricom says about 250,000 customers have taken up the option of buying smartphones on credit, a scheme that requires daily repayments from KES 20, Business Daily reported. Safaricom says the phones were bought between 28 July 2020 and the end of March, meaning that about 1,016 customers on average per day were buying the handsets. Safaricom launched the 'Lipa Mdogo Mdogo' device financing plan last July, to give customers still using feature phones an opportunity to own a 4G-enabled phone.
