Saudi lifts ban on internet calls, WhatsApp calls still blocked

The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced the lifting of the ban on all applications that provide voice and video call services over the internet, Arab News reported. Applications that meet regulatory requirements in the country can again offer VoIP starting 21 September. Adel Abu Heemed, the CITC spokesman, said that applications including FaceTime, Snapchat, Skype, Line, Telegram and Tango would be available to all users who are subscribed to the country's telecommunications services.
