Saudi SIM card sales drop in 2016 as foreign workers go home

Monday 13 March 2017 | 09:38 CET | News
Mobile SIM card sales in Saudi Arabia have fallen sharply, Saudi Gazette reports, citing official figures. This is attributed to the authorities' decision to record the biometric details of subscribers and to a significant number of expatriates returning home for good because of labour market conditions. The Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) said there were 47.93 million active SIM cards in 2016 against 52.8 million in 2015, which is a drop of 4.87 million.
