SD Association releases 4Gbps memory card spec

The SD Association (SDA) has announced the launch of the new SD 8.0 specification for SD Express memory cards that delivers a maximum data transfer rate of nearly 4Gbps. The backward compatible cards use the popular PCI Express (PCIe) 4.0 and NVMe Express protocols found in solid-state drives to enable advanced memory access mechanisms, said the SDA, adding that the SD 8.0 specification continues giving system developers access to technologies such as Bus Mastering, Multi Queue (without locking mechanism) and Host Memory Buffer.
