Serbian mobile users drop to 8.62 mln in Q4

The total number of active mobile telephony users in Serbia reached 8.62 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 2017, down from 8.82 million in the previous quarter. According to data published by regulator Ratel, 4.72 million were postpaid, down from 4.75 million in Q3, and 3.90 million were prepaid, down from 4.06 million in the previous quarter. The number of ported mobile numbers fell to 29,594 from 32,277 in the previous quarter. 

Telekom Srbija kept the lead with a 45.7 percent market share, followed by Telenor Serbia with 31.1 percent and Vip mobile with 23.2 percent. The number of active mobile broadband internet users rose slightly to 5.43 million in the quarter, up from 5.42 million in Q3, and M2M users amounted to 250,000 (234,000 in Q3). 

There were 2.49 million fixed telephony subscribers, down from 2.50 million, while ported fixed numbers increased to 12,767 from 11,964. 

The number of fixed internet subscribers rose to 1.49 million from 1.46 million. In terms of access technology, xDSL (47%) and cable (41%) accounted for most of the subscribers. Most of the subscribers had 10-30 Mbps access speeds (56%), followed by 30 Mbps (38%). In this segment, Telekom Srbija leads with 44 percent market share, followed by SBB (28%) and others (9%). 

The number of pay-TV subscribers amounted to 1.73 million, up from 1.71 million. The main distribution technologies were digital cable (38%), IPTV (25%), analogue cable (21%), DTH (15%) and wireless network (1%). The top players in this market segment were SBB with a 48 percent share, followed by Telekom Srbija (25%) and others (9%).
