SFR signs deal to offer 3G, LTE in Paris metro

French operator SFR and Paris transport authority RATP have signed an agreement to deploy 3G and LTE in the metro and RER commuter train stations of Paris and the Ile de France region. SFR will install cellular equipment on the passive infrastructure to be rolled out by RATP subsidiary Telcite/Naxos, notably antennas. SFR is the first operator to sign a 3G/LTE deal with RATP. Operators started offering 2G services in RATP stations as early as 2000 and Spain's Gowex announced an agreement with RATP to offer free Wi-Fi, mainly in RER and bus stations, during the last week of June.
