SFR will not bid for French rugby rights - report

Against all expectations, French mobile and broadband operator SFR will not bid for rights to air the country's Top 14 rugby matches for the 2019/2020 to 2022/2023 seasons, reports Les Echos, citing a letter from Patrick Drahi, the founder of SFR parent company Altice, to the national rugby league. He reportedly also wrote to the Competition Authority to complain about the timing of the league's rights auction, which has a 12 May deadline for bids. Whereas such auctions usually occur a few months or maybe up to a year in advance, the procedure is being held three years before the rights come
