SK Hynix to invest KRW 9.6 tln in DRAM, NAND production

South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix has announced plans to invest KRW 9.6 trillion (approximately USD 8.5 billion) in 2017 to expand its production facilities for DRAM and NAND chips, Yonhap news agency reports. SK Hynix thus expands initial investment estimates of KRW 7 trillion this year. According to SK Hynix, the investment will mainly focus on building new clean rooms as well supporting research and development projects. The expanded investment plans are also expected to help SK Hynix meet the rising demand for DRAM chips and expand production capabilities for 3D NAND products.
