Sky insists it will not pay to carry RTE channels

Pay-TV company Sky has threatened to drop Irish state broadcaster RTE's channels from its service if they are no longer offered for free, reports the Irish Times. Speaking to the Communications Committee on 03 October, Sky's group director of policy and public affairs, David Wheeldon, said that Sky would not pay RTE for its channels if it was no longer obliged by the Government to offer its channels to pay-TV providers for free.
