Sky renews satellite deal with Optus, to launch Optus 11 satellite in 2023

Thursday 2 July 2020 | 15:52 CET | News
Sky New Zealand agreed a revised contract with Australian operator Optus that delivers satellite functionality for the next ten years. The transponder capacity taken by Sky can be flexed over the deal's term with corresponding cost savings and new functionality, Sky said. This revised contract enables Optus to commit to build and launch in 2023 Optus 11, what it calls the first of a new breed of software-defined Ku-band satellites that will deliver greater functionality compared to the existing D1 satellite.
