Sky to overtake Liberty as largest pay-TV firm in W Europe

Sky Europe (satellite subscribers only) is expected to overtake Liberty Global as the largest pay-TV operator in Western Europe in 2017, according to a new report from Digital TV Research. Liberty Global's subscriber base is expected to fall as it has to try and convert 8 million analogue cable subscriber in 2010 to none by 2020, and some of these will be lost to other digital platforms. The report covers pay-TV subscriptions for 66 operators across 15 countries. Their combined subscriber base will increase from 82 million in 2010 to 93.1 million in 2020.
